The story of Handy Foods begins in June 1963, when Larry and Bonnie McGrogan opened a convenience grocery store with only two aisles. Now, he and his family own the recently expanded and renovated 27,000 square foot Handy Foods IGA, located just beyond downtown Ottawa, IL.

Along with groceries that you would expect from other conventional stores, Handy Foods also has a full-service bakery, deli and USDA meat department. As you shop Handy Foods, you will notice that in addition to the exceptional produce that will tempt your appetite, the aroma of the fresh-baked donuts, rolls, and breads will satisfy a craving or two. Delicious, fresh-brewed, regular and flavored coffee is conveniently located near the donuts for the morning pick me up. The deli is famous for it's full menu of unique as well as those American-as-apple-pie meals we all love. Stuffed Italian beef, homemade tenderloins, burgers, and pizzas are carried out by the customers to enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner.

If you're in a hurry, a full menu of home-cooking hot food is available for immediate take out from our hot case. On the lighter fare, Handy Foods carries an abundance of cold salads, sandwiches, and tasty snacks. If you wish to cook yourself, our USDA meat department carries the choice meat that your family deserves.
